The Origin of Soomduu App
Let me introduce myself first. I'm an app developer who moved to Khon Kaen to study. My girlfriend and I aren't locals, so we were truly beginners in this city. A question kept repeating every day until it became a household phrase... "What should we eat today? Which restaurant is good?" In the end, we always ended up eating at the same old places. 😅
The whole story started from that little wonder.
One day, I thought... "If we gathered all the shops in Khon Kaen and had a randomizer button, it would be fun." So I tried building a small prototype just to play around.
Then a voice came from beside me. My 'lady' asked, "Why not make it a serious app?" She immediately followed up with, "Can we randomize things other than food?" That single sentence sparked it all. I instantly thought, "That's right! Let's make it randomize every type of shop!"
When we decided to make a serious app, we faced a major hurdle: "Naming it." She suggested several names, like "Random" and "Ron-Dam", which sounded funny, but I felt we hadn't found the right rhythm yet. Until she started playing around with words...
Like "Soom-mai... Soom-di... Soom-de..." And then it perfectly landed on "Soomduu". Hearing that, I knew immediately: This is it!
For the app itself, we designed Soomduu to support 2 languages and be accessible in multiple countries. The system will display shops based on your selected country. As for the revenue model, we allow interested merchants to "promote" their own shops.
This app was born from a real problem we both faced, and we've been serious about it since day one. We hope Soomduu will help everyone solve the "What to eat today" problem too! 💚

The Story of Our First Shop
Overcoming fear at a familiar coffee shop

We were terrified of rejection... This was a coffee shop I visited often on my days off or when I first started out. Back then, I built websites under the name 'webdevohm' (which has now become WDOTECH). On sleepless mornings, I would come here because it was lonely working all by myself. Sometimes, I would even show my website designs to the owner, asking, 'Does this look good?'

Then came the day I finally finished my own app and installed it on iOS. I was overjoyed. I went to the shop with my co-founder (my girlfriend). We waited until the owner finished making coffee for the other customers, and then I explained what the app was...

We were so thrilled to onboard our very first shop. After that, we went on to add a restaurant named 'Sri Prapha' and finally a massage shop, all of which gladly joined us. In those early days, we walked around and onboarded every shop ourselves.
Today, Soomduu is officially open for merchants.
